Amy Mathieson

BA Architecture, Oxford Brookes University

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

— Steve Jobs

Amy started her career in architecture working in residential and community-led projects for several years. This background and experience provided her a thorough understanding of the building process from design all the way through construction. In 2010, Amy moved to Beijing where she focused her efforts on interior design and her growing interest in traditional architecture and restoration. Amy worked as a Senior Designer for an European interior design firm in China, managing the company’s most prominent client, BMW, as well as setting up and leading a new department in building restoration. Amy’s interior design experience ranges from high-end commercial projects to residential courtyard house renovations.

Born British-Chinese and raised in Switzerland, Amy recently moved to the United States and settled into the Bay Area. With her (now) husband, the couple broke the Guinness World Record for ‘longest continuous motorcycle journey within a single country’ back in 2013. For five months, they rode a single motorcycle through all 33 provinces in China, touring the diverse architecture of the country and raising funds and awareness for a local charity called Free Lunch for Children. When not planning her next trip abroad for travel or to visit family, Amy can be found hiking or biking in the great outdoors.
