To complement the state-of-the-art equipment and entertainment at each exam chair, the SDS team crafted functional spaces for parents and staff with youthful touches for patients. For example, interactive floor tiles in a modern, coastal pattern lead kids to the Pediatric Bay, while jellyfish light fixtures create moments of delight in the waiting area. In high traffic areas, the SDS team selected wood plank vinyl flooring, curved millwork, and carpets resilient to staining and wear and tear.

After 40 years, the Bay Area’s premier pediatric dental practice was ready for the SDS team to take its 9,500 square foot facility into the 21st century. With a focus on classic colors and finishes, the practice’s Alameda location (an island in the East Bay flanking coast of Oakland) inspired the design theme centered around water.

In exam rooms, privacy was the main concern. Acoustic wall treatments, window tinting, and motorized shades give the patients a relaxing environment for treatment. Round, organic light fixtures and a tranquil blue-green color palette subtly carry out the timeless coastal theme throughout the space.
